Nikki Coen as Yvonne in Roddy Doyle's play "War"
A Difficult Run
We all knew that Jennifer Johnston's play, The Nightingale and not the Lark, was going to be tough. However it was only when Director George Bruen and his cast were into rehearsals
that the true difficulty of this magnificent play became apparent. Although the play was well received by audiences all over the country, it failed to ignite the adjudicators. By and large, adjudicators praised the production and the cast but at every hurdle,
we just fell short. Nevertheless those involved in the production enjoyed their visits to various festivals and in particular to venues that were new to DADS - such as Birr and Ballina. The cast of Andrew Carney, Nikki Coen and Margie Cheevers worked their
socks off and were very disappointed as their hopes were dashed again and again. Never feear however, DADS will be back on the One Act Circuit again - le cúnamh Dé.
While on the topic of our actors, we will all miss Nikki Coen who has taken off to seek fame and fortune in Chicago. Nikki has been a stalwart of DADS - both on and off the stage
since her debut in 2007 in "A Theif of a Christmas". Who will forget her wonderful performances in "Borrowed Robes", "An Actor's Nightmare", "War", "On Such as We" and many others. We wish Nikki well in the USA and we can assure her that she may be gone but
her good humour, her warm personality and above all her contribution to DADS will never be forgotten
